Rapunzel’s tower is a satellite. She can’t let down her hair—or her guard.
In this third book in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles series, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.
Their best hope lies with Cress, who has been trapped on a satellite since childhood with only her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker—unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.
When a daring rescue goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing stop her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only ones who can.
I don’t even know how to review this book. I feel like it’s already so well established that the entire Lunar Chronicles series is amazing… because it is. And I promise, Cress is no different! This book rocks super hard. What else is there to say?
One of my favourite things was that Rapunzel is a hacker. A HACKER! This is the coolest Rapunzel twist ever, and it totally worked. Cress was such a cute character. On the one hand, she was a total badass with her hacker knowledge and epic skills. But on the other hand, she was a bit socially awkward and weird, but in an adorable way. I wanted to hug her and be her best friend! She’d talk to herself out loud, or say weird things, and it just made me smile. SHE’S SOOOO CUTE! And her little romance with Thorne was sweet. I like how the first impressions were totally wrong… but also kind of right. View Spoiler »
I feel so invested in the Lunar Chronicles story and Cress just increased that investment. I’m DYING to see how everything comes together. The Lunar Chronicles is one of the most interesting series I’ve ever read. New information, twists, and characters are added with every book, and I feel like it just intensifies everything. I feel like the book is taking a big breath before some insane, epic, chaotic ending, and I’m psyched for it!
Marissa Meyer, the goddess of fairy tales: keep rocking my world.
Glad you enjoyed the book! Just in time, I was looking for a good series to start reading. I need a book with likeable characters and Cinder does seem to fit the bill.
Every time Marissa Meyer write a book I’m so blown away! They just keep getting better. *fangirls endlessly* THORNE AND CRESS. I ship them very hard. I was only sad that there was less Wolf/Scarlet. They’re probably my favourite couple of all time. But Iko had an aaaamazing part in this and I just couldn’t help giggle. Particularly when she’s like, “Oh yes, we should definitely kidnap the emperor.” She is the BEST.
I completely agree! Blown away yet again 🙂 Cress was just.. perfect. her quirky awesomeness was just what I wanted out of her character and Throne grew on me even more. I mean come on.. how sweet is he towards Iko?! *awwwww *
I guess I really need to look into reading this series. 🙂
I can’t wait to get to Cress! I finally really took the time and gave Cinder a chance – and I looooved it. Now I’m onto Scarlet and I just met Thorne and he IS pretty funny and I get that at this point he doesn’t do something for nothing. But I still like him. At least he’s honest about it.
And I SO agree with the last part about Marissa Meyer being the goddess of fairy tales. SO TRUE.
I love your enthusiasm over the book and series! It definitely resonated in your review.
When I first heard that Cress was a hacker when I was reading some reviews, I immediately thought, “Ashley is gonna love this book!” Glad that you did, it sounds like the romance was super great, and so was the character development. Marissa is amazing at developing fantastic characters that endear to you, omg I’m just so excited to read this one. Fantastic review, Ashley! <33
Eeks I can’t believe you haven’t read it yet?!! I hope you love it!
I still haven’t gotten around to reading Cinder (my to-read list is way too long). I’ve heard great things about this series. I’ve also heard that the audiobooks were great, so I’ll probably listen to them when I have more time (and less homework).
I still need to read book two. You know Cinder was just okay for me but I am seeing so many great reviews for this book I know I have to finish this series.
I am anxiously awaiting my copy from the library! 🙂
So glad you liked this one as much as I did Ashley! I agree…Marissa is the master of creating fairy-tale adaptions, and Cress was no exception! I definitely agree that the characters and the romance (oh the romance!) were top notch! Definitely excited to see what Winter has in store…the wait’s going to kill me though!
As always, fabulous review Ashley! Thanks for sharing! 😀
This is my current most favorite series. I just love it and I can’t wait to see how it all works out!
Definitely my favorite of the series so far too! It was SO amazing. The characters, the setting the action… really everything was just perfect!
