With the science of soul-fingerprinting a reality, Alina Chase has spent her entire life imprisoned for the crimes her past-self committed. In an attempt to clear her name, Alina unintentionally trades one prison for another when she escapes, aided by a group of teens whose intentions and motivations are a mystery to her. As she gets to know one of the boys, sparks fly, and Alina believes she may finally be able to trust someone. But when she uncovers clues left behind from her past life that only she can decipher, secrets begin to unravel. Alina must figure out whether she’s more than the soul she inherited, or if she’s fated to repeat the past.

This compelling story will leave readers wondering if this fictional world could become a reality.

WOAH THERE! Look out! Because Soulprint was really freaking awesome. I hoped to love this book but I didn’t expect to totally hook me in the way it did.

Soulprint was non-stop action. It was an intense, mystery thriller that WOULD NOT STOP. There was no stopping to take a breath. No stopping to rest. Nada. It was going 100 MPH the entire time and as a result, I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!

I read the whole book in one sitting. Then, it was like 1am and I was 35 pages from the end. My husband came into the room to go to bed and I started panicking and screaming things like:

“There’s no way you can make me stop reading!”

“Nothing will tear this book from my hands!”

“I cannot stop now! Only 35 pages left!”

“DON’T MAKE ME!”

Then my husband just looked at me like I was nuts and said, “Uhh, you can keep reading…”

Soulprint was a total “Ashley” book

Soulprint’s foundation was in hacking and technology. But, the book wasn’t really full of geek-speak. There was no technical lingo (“database” was advanced as it got). And while I do like geek-speak, I think the lack of it will make this book more relatable for others.

But anyway! My point is that the main part of the book was figuring out this huge mystery. Alina’s “past-self” (the previous life that her soul had) was named June. June was a fugitive because she hacked into the soul-database and released confidential information. Alina thinks maybe there was more to the story, so the book is all about unravelling that mystery, and OMG it is gripping!

A sweet and subtle romance

There is a romance in Soulprint, but it’s not really center front. It’s something that slowly develops on the side. The focus is always the mystery, which is how it should be because that part was by far the most intense and interesting! But the romance was really sweet too. I liked it, even though I appreciated the fact that it wasn’t more prominent.

Good ending, but…

This is the part I’m oddly iffy on. I did like the ending a lot and how everything came together. But the book kind of left me wanting more. Is that good or bad? Given that this is a standalone, I think I would have preferred to be more 100% satisfied than wanting more. I’m not even sure how it could have been done differently. I just felt like maybe I wanted more detail or “revolution” or something. I don’t know. Maybe I still had questions and I prefer being left with answers.

But that being said, this was a super awesome book that kind of took me by surprised. I hoped I’d like this book, but I’m not really sure I expected to give it 4.5 stars! I guess it was just that un-put-downable. πŸ˜‰

    1. I know!!! It’s totally rare! I love this this one had a perfect balance. It was sweet, so I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t the focus of the book.

  1. I really enjoyed this. I actually found the first 25-50% just a bit slow. I kept waiting for something to happen. But then it took off. I loved the background. I loved the plot and ideas that flowed with it. And I really enjoyed the characters. I do agree that I wanted more at the end. I was satisfied but could see there being so much more to this! Glad you enjoyed it!

  2. I actually found this one interesting but not well thought out in the whole “how does the soul stuff work.” Now that I think about it, I can totally see why you loved it so much, though. It wasn’t at all bad but it wasn’t really for me.

    Great review!

    1. With books like this, I often tend to just let logic fly out the window. I try not to read into the details too much, because then you can usually find things to pick apart, haha. I just let myself roll with it, you know?

It’s the same with TV shows. My husband and I watch one called Scorpion and it’s all about genius tech nerds. So much of the stuff in the show makes NO sense or is just blatantly incorrect. But I know it’s just a fun show so I don’t think about it too hard. I just enjoy it. But then my husband sits next to me and makes frequent comments about how “that’s not possible” or “that’s not how it works”, haha.

  3. ooh, YAY!! I plan to read this one this week and for some insanely weird reason I have felt zero motivation to start it. xD Which is weird because it looks like it has aaaall the things I love! I adore action that never stops and romance on the smaller side and techno stuff (especially if I can understand it). XD I’m excited to try it now!! HUZZAH!

    1. You know, I felt EXACTLY the same way before I started it. I requested this ARC and by the time I got it, I just wasn’t super excited about starting it.. I have NO idea why. But then I did start it and as soon as I did, I was totally into it!

  4. Wow! I am definitely looking forward to this book! I love the concept of the soul and what’s more, it’s a stand alone so it’s a refreshing stop form all the trilogies. I’ll add it to my to be read pile!

  5. I haven’t heard about Soulprint before but I like the idea of soul printing and basically the whole plot. Your description reminds me of The Body Electric (action, subtle romance, questions about human soul…) and I loved that book so I am definitely adding this one to my tbr. πŸ™‚
