This book signing wasn’t officially called Authors of Awesome, but that’s what I’m calling it because all the authors are awesome!
I have Twitter to thank for this event. I was just browsing around until I saw Shelley (@SJKincaidBooks) tweet saying:
Whoops, CA people. I mean I’ll be at Keplers in Menlo Park at 7, not 6!
— SJ Kincaid (@SJKincaidBooks) June 6, 2013
So, naturally, I was like OMGOMGOMG WHAAAAAT??? YOU’LL BE AT KEPLER’S??? TODAY??? Cue much freaking out and all that jazz.
Meeting the Authors of Awesome!
I arrived there super early and snagged a seat in the front row! The authors started by introducing themselves and their books, and then we played two truths and a lie! Each author said three things about themselves: two true facts and one lie. It was our job to guess the lie! All of the authors had some hilarious facts which turned into great stories! Apparently Kirsten Hubbard has slid down a volcano, and she had a machine gun pointed at her face!
Then the authors discussed things like their most difficult scene to write (the one I remember best: Shannon’s chapter 10 in Let the Sky Fall), what the drafting process was like, querying for agents, etc. Shannon had like over 10 drafts of her MG book Keeper of the Lost Cities, but S.J. Kincaid only had about two of Insignia!
An author I’ve met before
I met Shelley, author of Insignia last year at a signing in Huntington Beach. However, I had only spent like half a second with her since the Huntington Beach signing had a huuuge crowd. So, I was thrilled to meet her again! This setting at Kepler’s was much smaller and more intimate! It allowed me to have some one-on-one time with Shelley! We chatted about books, England, and even had time for a quick photo!

And the one I was dying to meet..
I read MILA 2.0 by Debra Driza a few months ago and LOVED it! It was everything I hoped it would be! I was so upset when I found out I would miss her spring tour, so now I was thrilled to be able to finally meet her! She’s so sweet and I got a chance to fan girl over MILA, and we talked a bit about the TV show (and how they should totally HBO/GoT that show.. lolol!).
I already had a signed copy of MILA 2.0 but I had her sign it again (because I’m cool like that) and she signed my ARC!

Woah, Shannon Messenger is so cool!
Have you ever wanted to read a book because you loved an author’s personality? That has so happened to me! I always wanted to read Let the Sky Fall but suddenly it’s the #1 book on my list! Shannon was so hilarious! If she has put even a fraction of that personality into her story and her characters, then I know Let the Sky Fall is going to be amazing! She was hilarious, constantly cracking jokes, and overall so much fun!

And some new faces!
I also met Stephanie Kuehn, author of Charm & Strange and Kirsten Hubbard, author of Wanderlove. I haven’t read either of those ladies’ books, but they were both SO sweet and I loved hearing what they had to say! Kirstin had so many awesome stories about her travels throughout central America, and I loved listening to Stephanie’s answers about why she writes YA!

And… meeting new bloggers!
One of the best things about signings is meeting new people! I met a fellow blogger, Cynthia from Read is the New Black! Pop on over and say hello to her—she’s super nice! 🙂
Giveaway
I really wish I could give away signed copies of each of these ladies’ wonderful books, but alas… books are expensive, and all that jazz. So, I’m giving away my ARC (which is now signed!) of MILA 2.0 by Debra Driza! It breaks my heart a little to part with it, but I also have a lovely finished copy of MILA 2.0, so it’s time to part with the ARC.

Mila 2.0 is the first book in an electrifying sci-fi thriller series about a teenage girl who discovers that she is an experiment in artificial intelligence.
Mila was never meant to learn the truth about her identity. She was a girl living with her mother in a small Minnesota town. She was supposed to forget her past—that she was built in a secret computer science lab and programmed to do things real people would never do.
Now she has no choice but to run—from the dangerous operatives who want her terminated because she knows too much and from a mysterious group that wants to capture her alive and unlock her advanced technology. However, what Mila’s becoming is beyond anyone’s imagination, including her own, and it just might save her life.
Mila 2.0 is Debra Driza’s bold debut and the first book in a Bourne Identity–style trilogy that combines heart-pounding action with a riveting exploration of what it really means to be human. Fans of I Am Number Four will love Mila for who she is and what she longs to be—and a cliffhanger ending will leave them breathlessly awaiting the sequel.

SO ENVIOUS!!!
I love it when we get one-on-one time with authors, though I’ll probably end up into a blubbering mess and just thinking OMGOMGOMG the whole time. 2 truths and 1 lie is such an interesting game, you guys look like you’ve had a lot of fun!! I used to think authors are people “high up there” but after I started blogging and joining in book events, I realized authors are really nice and friendly people 😉 Blehh if only I lived in the US, I’ve always wanted to read MILA 2.0 but oh wells, shall have to buy it soon!
Oh my gosh, what an awesome collection of authors! The title is no lie, lol! Sounds like you had a great time! 🙂
So cool. I have yet to go to an author event. That’s the bad part of living in the middle of nowhere.
