Piper’s world is dying.
Each day brings hotter temperatures and heat bubbles that threaten to destroy the earth. Amid this global heating crisis, Piper lives under the oppressive rule of her mother, who suffocates her even more than the weather does. Everything changes on her eighteenth birthday, when her mother is called away on a mysterious errand and Piper seizes her first opportunity for freedom.
Piper discovers a universe she never knew existed—a sphere of gods and monsters—and realizes that her world is not the only one in crisis. While gods battle for control of the Underworld, Piper’s life spirals out of control as she struggles to find the answer to the secret that has been kept from her since birth.
An imaginative melding of mythology and dystopia, Solstice is the first YA novel by talented newcomer P. J. Hoover.

Global warming, environmental problems, gods, the Underworld… count me in!!
OooOoOh, I like it. Sounds pretty awesome. But I did start getting hot while reading it. I swear I feel temperatures in the books I read.
Good choice! I hadn’t heard of this one but it sounds great and it’s now on my wishlist!
That sounds sooo damn awesome and I’m totally up for a good mythology story!
Ooo, P.J. Hoover! I haven’t read any of her books, but I remember when the cover of this book was redone. I hope you enjoy this book! And definitely let us know how it goes 😀

Dystopian AND mythology? Um. YES. With exclamation points. I hadn’t heard of this before, and the cover might have deterred me, to be completely honest. But yes, this sounds great. Thanks for featuring it. *TBR grows*
I have to say I’m not quite convinced yet. I think I’ll be waiting until I see some trustworthy reviews before I make up my mind about it.
I read this a couple of years ago before it got picked up by TOR and it was pretty great. It’s more mythology with a dystopian background but really enjoyable if you like that kind of thing. Especially if you like a certain myth that keeps popping up in YA retellings. 🙂
Ohh awesome! 😀 I love me a good mythology book! I can’t wait!
I’ve never heard of this one but it sounds pretty interesting. I’m with Caro though – will have to see some good reviews before I add it to my TBR pile!

This looks so good! Loving the cover. 🙂
Popular choice today. Sounds great!
Popular choice today. Sounds great! I like the mix of mythology and dystopia.
This sounds very cool. I hadn’t heard of it before. A combination of dystopian and mythology is a good one. Great pick!
My WoW
Ugh, I hate dystopias but I do like mythology and books that have to do with the Underworld.
BTW-I read your review of Crush on Goodreads and I think I’ll be skipping on that one. It drives me batshit crazy when girls get all paranoid over guys wanting to spend money on them. Especially if they are planning on getting married. I’m all for independence but not when it draws the line at stupidity…*sigh* I still want to read it though…but then I don’t. #conflicted
Yeah I TOTALLY agree. I mean.. geeze.
Other than the two things I mentioned though, the book was awesome. And she was only annoyingly anal about money for like… 1/3rd of the book. I don’t know. I totally get if you don’t want to read it since that was so freaking annoying. But other than that (and the “put on a sweatshirt” thing) it was an awesome book with a great ending.
I haven’t heard of this book before now but it sounds really interesting!
A nice pick Ashley! My WoW
I’ve been looking forward to this one since I heard about it. Hopefully it’ll be a great combo of mythology and dystopia!
